about

When we first got together in the summer of 1988, two of us lived at 503 S. Hays in Carbondale, Illinois. Late in the summer, new guys moved in next door, and one night, while me and the drummer were jamming, this guy walks over, introduces himself, and asks if he could jam with us. That was all it took. Within a couple of weeks we were writing 5 or 6 news songs every time we got together. Brian, especially, was a song engine, and that inspired the name for this release. We didn't have any money, and needed some promo piece to get our name out (we used these things called cassette tapes). So, we began recording practices, our first gigs in basements, in underground clubs (Club Felix in the Dale, was just down the street from us). We copied and spliced different recordings into this terrible sonic quality DIY demo tape.

I am putting it out here, more as an archive, than a showcase of our quality work. Believe it or not, this got us shows at Mabels and Tritos in Champaign, and at several other clubs in the mid-west. It was a....simpler time then.

about

The Nightsoil Coolies Carbondale, Illinois

The Nightsoil Coolies formed when Roger Pugh, Tony Aimone, and Brian Vaughan heard each other playing music on Hays Street in Carbondale, Illinois, in the summer of 1988. Not long after, they were playing out. Brian was a song engine, and before we split in 1991, we had written about 100 songs, and played all over the country. People from around the Dale still ask about us every once in awhile. ... more
